Hello everyone, and thank you so much for logging on to read our very first blog post for the Official Regal Blog! My name is Ciara, and when my friend, Aubrey, the founder of Regal, approached me a few weeks ago about joining her in this blog, I was excited to jump on board! We are thrilled to cultivate this online community for women.
As we brainstormed about our first post, we decided on an interview with our founder so our readers could get to know more about her as the store owner, while simultaneously learning some fun details about the shop. We can't wait to share our upcoming posts with you, as we have some exciting things ahead! So without further ado, here is our interview with Aubrey.
Q: First of all, could you tell us a little about your background, where you are from, and where you live? A: I was born in North Carolina! My family started a home missions church in Reidsville, NC, where my dad pastored for over 8 years. A little later my family felt called to the evangelistic field. We ended up evangelizing for 13 years full-time! I loved travelling the country and getting to meet some amazing people from so many diverse cultures. About 2 years ago, God called my family to Kansas City, Missouri. I absolutely LOVE it! There is always so much to do and see, and the people here are great, too!
Q: Have you always been interested in clothes? Where and how did your passion for fashion begin? A: It's funny, because when I was growing up, I had ZERO fashion sense! I always crack up looking at old pictures of myself. (Laughs) Honestly, I’d say the last 10 or so years is when my passion for style started. My first job was at Anthropologie (one of my favorite stores). I then tried a few other jobs, from selling mattresses, to the medical field. I knew I wasn't happy career-wise, so I went back to retail and got a job at Tory Burch. I then began to understand that fashion really was my niche.
Q: Who/what influenced your style? Was there any person in particular? A: I like to draw inspiration from so many different sources! I personally tend to go for a more unique and funky style. As far as classic dressing, I have always loved Jackie Kennedy, Princess Diana and Kate Middleton’s style! I would totally say, I have my own style though. I guess I kind of get ideas from others and add my own spin to it! Q: What inspired you to start an online boutique? A:I had always dreamed of owning my own shop. Initially, I had no clue where to go with it or what to do, so I actually started selling LulaRoe! I quickly learned that It wasn’t for me, as I wanted to sell things that were more in line with my personal style. I had to go through several learning experiences to actually find what I wanted to sell, but I figured it out--this year we celebrated our 5th year to be in business.
Anyway, I had my store as a side gig for years but it wasn’t a full-time business for me. In January, I felt a change coming, so I completely revamped the shop! Not only did I change the name, but I invested in new inventory and launched a website. God has blessed us so much more than we deserve! I was finally able to make Regal my only career and give it my absolute best!
Q: What are your goals for the future of Regal? Would you ever consider a brick-and-mortar store? A: I absolutely have been considering that. I’ve been praying about what steps to take next. I have several ideas, now I'm just waiting for direction! I can’t wait to share what we decide to do soon! Q: What kind of content can our readers look forward to seeing on the Official Regal Blog? A: I've been thinking about this for quite some time, and I've decided for this blog to weave together several things. I would like for it to be a unique mix of spiritual articles and encouragement, fashion (obviously), interviews, and some recipes and home inspo! I would even like to have some evangelism/outreach content available. Several have asked about it, so why not include it in the Official Regal Blog? I am elated to get this started, along with you, Ci!
Q: That sounds so exciting, Aub. Would you please tell our readers about some of your hobbies and passions aside from your business? A: Well, I LOVE to be outdoors: walking my puppy (Gucci), riding bikes, and swimming! I also really enjoy making hair accessories when I have spare time. Some of my other favorite things are to shop, work out, and spend time with my boyfriend Caleb.
